Didymocarpus pedicellate, is a small herb with a reduced stem, bearing two to three pairs of opposite, roundly ovate, glabrous, highly folded leaves that are three to six inches in diameter. The herb mostly grows in the subtropical Himalayas at altitudes of 2,500 to 5,500 meters. It is widely used in Ayurveda for the treatment of renal afflictions.

The leaves contain a number of chalcones, quinochalcones and flavanones. Pediflavone has also been isolated from young leaves. The main constituents isolated from leaves arePedicellic acid 2’-hydroxy-4’,5’,6’-trimethoxychalcone 5,8-dihydroxy-7-methoxyflavon and Didymocarpin . Some other major constituents are Pedicin Pedicinin, Pedicellin , Pedicidin .D. pedicellata also contain 2-Hydroxy-3,4,6-trimethoxychalchone, 5,6,7,8-tetramethoxyflavanone, 8-hydroxy-5,6,7-trimethoxyflavanone , Didymocarpene, (7-hydroxy-5,6,8-trimethoxyflavanone), Didymocarpin-A , Didymocarpol, didymocarpenol, Isodidymocarpin , Isopedicin, Methylpedicin, Methylpedicinin, Pashanone, Pediflavone, Pseudoisopedicin, β-sitosterol, Behenic acid, lignoceric acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid.
