Bergenia ligulata is a plant belonging to the family Saxifragaceae and the genus Bergenia. The plant is mostly found in the temperate Himalayas from Kashmir to Bhutan and in Khasia hills at 15,00 meters altitude. Uses:- The paste of the root of the plant Bergenia ligulata is applied over localized swelling and wounds for treatment. The decoction of the root of Bergenia ligulata is given in a dosage of 40-50 ml per day in divided doses to treat renal calculi, burning micturition, and retention of urine in the bladder.

Bergenia ligulata contains A phenolic compound bergenin and afzelechin, a type of flavan-3-ol. The rhizome contains an active principle of bergenin (0.6%), gallic acid, glucose (5.6%), tannins (14.2–16.3%), mucilage and wax; a C-glycoside and beta-sitosterol.
