Colchicum luteum plants were gathered from selected areas of Kashmir Himalaya located in the western Himalayas. Suranjana Colchicum luteum is an Ayurvedic plant, used for the treatment of liver and spleen inflammation, skin disorders. Colchicine extracted from this plant is used in modern medicine for the treatment / prevention of gout attacks. The plants were divided into different parts (corms, seeds, leaves, and flowers) and preserved at −2 °C. Corms of C. luteum were shade dried at 28 ± 3 °C. Then, they were milled by pestle and mortar until obtaining a fine powder with a particle size of 180 µm) and dissolved in ethanol and water (80:20).
Uses:- The powder of the root is sprinkled over fresh wound for quick healing. •

Chemical composition of Colchicum luteum The fresh corms and aerial parts of a sample from Jammu yielded 0.94% and 0.7% of total alkaloids, the major being colchicine 0.4% and 0.2% respectively.
